Background of the Study

The media plays a pivotal role in political socialization, especially for youth, by shaping their political beliefs, values, and attitudes (Ibrahim & Waziri, 2023). In Mubi South LGA, Adamawa State, radio programs have become a primary source of political information for young people, particularly in rural communities where access to other forms of media may be limited (Sule & Ahmed, 2024). Local radio stations broadcast a wide range of programs that educate youth on political issues, electoral processes, and civic duties, fostering an environment of political engagement and awareness (Kadir & Ali, 2023). This study explores the role of radio programs in political socialization among youth in Mubi South LGA, focusing on their impact on political participation, voting behavior, and political attitudes.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Although the media, particularly radio, is recognized as a tool for political socialization, the specific impact of radio programs on youth political engagement in Mubi South LGA remains under-researched. Given the prevalence of radio in rural areas, it is essential to understand how it influences youth political behaviors, such as voting, political participation, and civic responsibility (Bello & Idris, 2023). This study aims to fill this gap by examining how radio programs shape political socialization and engagement among youth in Mubi South LGA.
